What is the “Aid and Attendance Allowance”?

The Aid and Attendance Allowance is an additional benefit paid to Veterans and their spouses.

It is paid based on the individual's need of aid and attendance by another person or by specific disability for the Veteran or family member. This allowance is paid in all Compensation, DIC and Pension Programs. Special Monthly Compensation can at times be designated an aid & attendance benefit.

Certain qualifications must be met by the Veteran to determine eligibility and amount of compensation.
